Alexander Mario Scacco

April 24, 1931 – Sept. 15, 2015

Alexander Mario Scacco, 84, Altoona, passed away Tuesday at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was the son of the late Alessandro Mario and Mary Grace (Pulcine) Scacco. He married Carol Ann Minielli on May 4, 1957.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 58 years; two daughters: Anita (Scacco) Kazor (Gary) of Baltimore, Md., and Annette (Scacco) Harting (John) of Valrico, Fla.; two sons: Alex Michael of Lebanon, Pa., and Joseph of Altoona; six grandchildren: Ryan and Dr. Joshua Scacco, Brandon, Matthew and Alyssa Kazor and Elizabeth Harting; and a great-grandson, Maciek Kazor.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Vincent.

Alex was a 1949 graduate of Altoona High School and received an associate degree in electrical-mechanical engineering from Penn State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant, training at Sampson Air Force Base in Sampson, N.Y., and stationed in Bryan, Texas. He retired from Conrail with 40 years of service as a supervisor in production control at the Juniata Locomotive Shop.

Alex was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church as well as the Cesare Battisti Club, Bavarian Aid Society and Order Sons of Italy in America. He enjoyed sports, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates and Nittany Lions, and was an avid deer hunter and fisherman.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Sept. 17, 2015, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, followed by military honors. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
