Anthony J. Bruno Jr.

Aug. 30, 1957 – June 22, 2017

Anthony J. Bruno Jr., 59, Chicago, Ill., formerly of Altoona, passed away unexpectedly at

his residence on Thursday.

He was born in Altoona, son of Anthony J. “Gabby” and Theresa M. (Eder) Bruno Sr.

Surviving are a sister, Mary Ann Bruno of Vienna, Va.; a special friend, Carmela Van Atta of Chicago; his father; two aunts: Jenny Cellini and Mariam Bruno; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Anthony was a 1975 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School, a 1978 graduate of Penn State University and a 1983 graduate of DePaul University with a degree in health and public administration. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander, and was a member of St. Pascal Catholic Church, Chicago.

In his younger days, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed his Green Bay Packers, and loved golf and spending time with his family and friends in Altoona and Chicago.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Altoona, followed by military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Anthony’s name to Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School Scholarship Program, 2400 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
