Barbara L. Rowles, 85, Altoona, passed away peacefully Tuesday at
Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Altoona, after a
brief illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Frank and Rose
(Gioiosa) Lechner. She married George H. Rowles and he preceded her in
death on July 3, 1989.
Surviving are a son, George Rowles of Altoona; three grandchildren:
Justine, Tyler and Madisson; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters:
Deborah Dickson and Sandra Newberry, both of Altoona. She is also
survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann, in 1979; two
sisters: Delores and Rose; and three brothers: Frank, Donald and Norman.
Barbara was a homemaker who until recently had a passion for cooking
and baking for her family and friends. She was a member of the former
Christ’s Second Lutheran Church, Altoona, where she taught Sunday school
for many years.
She will be remembered for her generous spirit and willingness to donate her time and resources to helping others.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Barbara may be given to
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN
38105, or to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive,
Tampa, FL 33607.
