Catherine E. ‘Kay’ Casillo

Catherine "Kay" Casillo, 92, Altoona, passed away Monday at Valley View Health and Rehabilitation Center, where she resided.

She was born in Sinking Valley, daughter of John B. and Pearl (Imler) Tremmel. She married Michael A. Casillo in 1944, and he preceded her in death in 2000.

Surviving are four children: John Casillo and wife, Patty, of Altoona, Michael Casillo and wife, Carol, of Hollidaysburg, Delores Cassano and husband, Joseph, in Virginia and Ronald Weber and wife, Joyce, of Martinsburg; eight grandchildren: Julie Storm and husband, Christopher, of Duncansville, Laura Singh of Altoona, Daniel Casillo and wife, Alison, of Altoona, Michele Elders and husband, Christopher, of Altoona, Marlene Ricker and husband, Victor, of Hollidaysburg, Joseph Cassano and wife, Danielle, in Virginia, and Mark Weber and Michael Weber, both of Washington, D.C.

Twelve great-grandchildren were a blessing to her. She is also survived by a brother, Clarence and wife, Donna, of Altoona.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Frieda Fleck and Dorothy Noland; and four brothers: David, Charles, Albert and John.

Kay had worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Altoona Shoe Factory and spent most of her working years at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg, in food service, where she retired in 1980. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

Kay enjoyed gardening and keeping up with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she loved her dogs, who brought her great comfort and enjoyment.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 7, 2015, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Restoration Fund or to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society.
