Daniel Anthony DiLeo Sr.

March 24, 1924 – March 26, 2015

Daniel Anthony DiLeo Sr., 91, Altoona, passed away Thursday at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Altoona, son of Frank and Maria (Trimarco) DiLeo. He married Virginia T. Renda on Sept. 29, 1951, at St. James Catholic Church, South Fork.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 63 years; three daughters: Suzanne M. Ferry (Larry) of Altoona, Teresa M. Bender (Robert) of Altoona and Maria C. Stephens (Jackson) of Arlington, Va.; three sons: Daniel A. (Diana) of Downingtown, Vincent G. (Judy) of Altoona and Stephen N. (Lucy) of Altoona; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Theresa Imbrenda of Altoona; and a brother, Armando (Herbie) DeLeo of Duncansville.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Isaac DiLeo; and five brothers: Joseph, Martin, Anthony, Johnny and Frank.

Dan was a 1943 graduate of Altoona High School. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central and Conrail and retired in 1984 as the AAR Billing Bureau supervisor with 41 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, as well as the Knights of Columbus, serving as a past Faithful Navigator, and the Buccinese Society.

Dan also served as chief financial officer for the Altoona Academy of Tae-Kwon-Do and as the Mount Carmel Festival funnel cake supervisor. He enjoyed reading, his Italian heritage and spending time with all of his family.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2015, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2015, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be given in memory of Daniel to the Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services, 1130 12th Ave., Suite 300, Altoona, PA 16601.
