Daniel J. Lioy Jr.

June 8, 1937 – Oct. 6, 2019

Daniel J. Lioy Jr., 82, Altoona, passed away Sunday at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Daniel J. and Rosie (Spinazzola) Lioy. On January 22, 1966 he married Vera Pross.

Surviving is his loving wife of 53 years; a daughter, Kim Nakach; 2 grandchildren: Ashley (Jordan) McGowan and Abigail Nakach; 1 great-granddaughter: Wrennley Jo; and a brother, Joseph (Anne) Lioy, of Tyrone.

He was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Tom, Gene, and John Lioy and a sister, Nettie Freed.

Daniel was a 1956 graduate of Altoona High School and later worked at Sylvania, Zimmerman’s Electronics, Walmart, and the Bavarian Aid Society, where he was a bartender for many years. He served in the US Army as a Spc. 4 and served in Arlington National Cemetery on funeral details as Honor Guard.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, where he served as an Usher. He was also a member of the San Donato Club and the Bavarian Aid Society.

Friends will be received from 2-4pm and 6-8pm Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019 at the Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am Friday, Oct. 11, 2019 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
