David Edwin Jorden

David Edwin Jorden, 79, Altoona, passed away peacefully on Wednesday.

He was born in Kent, Ohio, son of the late Charles W. and Ada E. (Gates) Jorden. He was the youngest of four children. He married Barbara L. Visaggio on June 23, 1962.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 54 years; four children: Charles (Laura), Rosemary Jorden Best (John), Elizabeth Luther (Mike) and Amy Jorden Lusk; nine grandchildren: Kayleigh (Cory), Jorden (Kelly), Alyssa, Chloe, Ian, Julianna, David, Madison and Isaac; and two great-grandsons: Max and Quinn.

Dave was a 1956 graduate of Altoona High School. He attended U.S. Naval School at Treasure Island, Calif. He served in the U.S. Naval Security group from 1956-62, earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He also served as CT on board an RF-101 Voodoo reconnaissance plane, flying more than 300 missions over North Vietnam. He retired from Penelec as chief of communications. Dave also held a U.S. patent for an electronic device which was commercially developed.

Dave was given the gift of life as a heart transplant recipient in 2002. In his retirement, he enjoyed modifying and restoring model trains and airplanes. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his devoted wife, children and grandchildren, by whom he was best known as "Pappy Dave."

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 9, 2016, at Santella Funeral Home, Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Altoona, by the Rev. Dennis Kurdziel, followed by the committal at Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
