Dominick “Nick” Ruggiero, 85, Altoona, passed away Saturday at his residence.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Armando and Carmella (DeAntonio) Ruggiero. He married the late Betty Darlene Rodgers.
Surviving are four children: Mark Ruggiero and Jeffrey Ruggiero,
Ronald Rodgers and Betty Jane Nash; three grandchildren: Breanne, Jordan
and Austin Rodgers; his aunt, Gracie Minielli; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Ruggiero Sr.; and several aunts and uncles.
Nick retired from Conrail after 29 years of service. He also was
owner and operator of Variety Motors and Dominick’s Italian Restaurant.
He was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, Altoona. Nick
belonged to the Park Hills Country Club, Bavarian Aid Society and the
UVA Club.
In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing golf and poker. Nick had a
great sense of humor, and his stories always brought a smile to everyone
who knew him.
Friends will be received at the 11 a.m. funeral Mass to be celebrated
Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic
Church, Altoona, Father D. Timothy Grimme celebrant. Committal will be
at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona. Arrangements are by Santella Funeral
Home, Altoona.
