Frank P. Cancilla

Frank P. Cancilla, 93, of Altoona passed away Monday Nov. 16, 2015 at Golden-Living Center

Hillview. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Frank and Mary (Arcodia) Cancilla. He married Mary Cannamucio.

Surviving is his loving wife. A daughter Darlene Johnson and husband Frank of Midlothian, Va. and Two grandchildren: Travis and Marissa.

He was preceded in death by his son, Nicholas who was killed in action during the Vietnam War.

Frank was a 1941 graduate of Altoona High School and attended Penn State University taking classes in Mechanical Drafting. He served in the US Navy as a Boatswains Mate 2nd Class in the Pacific during World War II on Landing Craft Control Boat 39050 which was lead landing craft during the battles for Leyte and Luzon Islands in the Philippines.

He retired as a supervisor from Maytown Shoe Company and also had worked for various shoe companies in Altoona through the years. He had previously worked for Piper Aircraft and Tool Design in Lock Haven before and after the war.

Frank was a member of Our lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and the American Legion A&J IaIa Post. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time with his loving family.

Friends will be received from 5-8pm on Friday Nov. 20, 2015 at the Santella Funeral Home where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal at Calvary Cemetery with full Military Honors. In memory of Frank donations may be given to Mount Carmel Church or to the charity of your choice.
