James P. Metzgar

Jan. 25, 1947 – Oct. 29, 2016

James P. Metzgar, 69, Hollidaysburg, passed away Saturday at Hillview Health and

Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Joseph and Willette (Eckenrode) Metzgar.

Surviving are his loving wife and best friend of 50 years, Rosemary E. Rogers; his twin daughters, Joann Solis (George) and Roseann DeAntonio (Anthony), both of Altoona; two sons: James Metzgar of Altoona and Robert Metzgar of Hollidaysburg; a sister, Margaret Kay Kruk (Roman) of Philadelphia; a brother, Joseph Metzgar (Camille) of Homers Gap; a sister-in-law, Linda Rice of Altoona; five grandchildren: Anthony and Nickolas DeAntonio, Renata Solis, Brandon and James Metzgar Jr.; a great-grandson, Dominic DeAntonio; his loving aunts, nieces, nephews, friends and his best companion, his dog, Daisy.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Rosalie and Mary Ellen.

He was a graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School and retired as a salesman from Turkey Hill Farms. He also worked for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co, and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Jim was a passionate man who cared for and attended to his wife over the years.

He enjoyed watching and playing sports. In his younger years he was active in football, basketball and baseball. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, Penguins and the Clarion University Golden Eagles. He also enjoyed coaching and bowling.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal will be a Calvary Cemetery.
