John Louis Cerro

Oct. 25, 1955 - March 26, 2017

John Louis Cerro, 61, Altoona, entered into Eternity on Sunday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Newark, N.J., beloved son of John J. and the late Josephine (Raia) Cerro.

In rejoining his mother, he leaves behind his loving father; three dear siblings: Yolanda Levy, Victoria Savini and Frank Cerro; a brother-in-love, Domenic Savini; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He had worked for Conrail for 22 years and also enjoyed working the excursion routes as a bus driver for Coach USA Bus Lines and Leisure Line Bus Company

John's unceasingly joyful spirit and good-hearted, amicable nature were accompanied by a quiet and introspective intellect, physical strength and love for  animals. He had a special way with animals and many strays followed him home. He enjoyed spending his free time with his sister and cousins playing trivia (at which he was very successful, even when playing alone), exchanging jokes, solving riddles and playing chess.

However, most of all, he will be remembered for his unselfish love and ability to bring smiles to people’s faces, especially those less fortunate, as he showered them with his time, talent and treasure.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2017, at the Santella Funeral Home  where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
