Lena T. Palma

Sept. 10, 1922 – March 6, 2015

Lena T. Palma, 92, Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg, passed away Friday at the home.

She was born in Plainfield, N.J., daughter of Pasquale and Michelina (Modola) Martino. She married John Palma Sr. on Dec. 9, 1945. He passed away June 27, 2005.

Surviving are a daughter, Josephine (Alex) DeRubeis of Mentor, Ohio; a son, John Jr. of Altoona; five grandchildren: Dr. Michael (Paula) DeRubeis, Gina (George) Copeland, Carla (Scott) Huter, Dana (Matthew) Hearn and Maria (John) Janik; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Julius Martino of Ewing, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews, to whom she was a very loving aunt.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Thomas, John and Joseph Martino.

Lena was a graduate of Plainfield High School. She retired from Sears, Roebuck and Co. credit department and had previously worked at the Darling Shop in downtown Altoona.

Lena was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and Sons of Italy Ladies' Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, entertaining, cooking and spending time with her family.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2015, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Committal will be at Calvary Mausoleum.
