Leonard M. Ciaverella

July 28, 1927 – April 3, 2018

Leonard M. Ciaverella, 90, a resident of Colonial Courtyard at Bedford, formerly of Altoona, passed away on Tuesday at the home.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Matteo and Maria Lucia (Argentino) Ciaverella. On Nov. 22, 1951, he married Janet M. Prosperi, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 4, 2012.

Surviving are three sons: David M. and wife, Annemarie, of Manassas, Va., Mark A. and husband, Dan, of Arlington, Va., and Brian V. and wife, Chrissy, of Cary, N.C.; four grandchildren: Antonia, Vincent, Dominic and Carli; one great-granddaughter, Isabella; a sister, Madeline Launchi; and many nieces and nephews.

Leonard was a 1945 graduate of Altoona High School, and he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired in 1983 from A&P as a produce manager. He then owned an antique business in Water Street and at Leighty’s Flea Market.

He was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, Altoona.

He was an avid gardener and cook. Leonard enjoyed going out to eat and drinking a great cup of coffee. He also enjoyed drawing, and was very artistic.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. today, April 6, 2018, at Santella Funeral Home, Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018, at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, Altoona. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Saint Vincent de Paul Society, 1215 Seventh Ave., Altoona PA 16602.
