Linda J. Mauriello

Linda J. Mauriello, 68, Altoona, passed away Monday at UPMC Altoona, where she fought a courageous battle with cancer for five years.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Russell and Betty (Wills) Pirozzola. Linda married Joseph N. Mauriello Jr., and he passed away on April 13, 2003.

Surviving are a son, Matthew (Brandi) Mauriello of Collegeville; a granddaughter, Emerson; and her fiance of eight years, Michael “Mike” Stefanick.

Linda and her fiance, Mike, enjoyed 13 years together. She spent her time at Mike’s home, where she felt safe and secure during her last three months of life. Linda and Mike were a “ dream come true story,” as noted in their book, “Dare to Dream.”

She was a 1967 graduate of Altoona Area High School, and a 1971 graduate of Penn State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. In 1977, she also received a master’s degree in developmental and remedial reading from Penn State University. After 37 years of service, Linda retired as an elementary school teacher from the Altoona Area School District, where she loved teaching second grade students.

She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altoona, and the Pa. Association of School Retirees.

Linda enjoyed traveling in her retirement, visiting casinos and spending time with her family. All who knew Linda knew she was a very special, very kind, very considerate and a very beautiful person inside and out.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. today,

Dec. 28, 2018, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altoona, the Rev. Brian Saylor celebrant. Committal will be at Calvary Mausoleum.
