Louis A. Berardinelli

Oct. 16, 1942 – Feb. 19, 2020

Louis A. Berardinelli, 77, Altoona, passed away Wednesday at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Alphonse and Rose (Sorichetti) Berardinelli. On June 5, 1965, he married Sandra L. Riccio at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years; a daughter, Dana (Dan) Martinazzi; a son, Scott (Stephanie) Berardinelli; six grandchildren: Jaret, Brandon, Alyssa, Alex, Aubriana, and Emmalyse; a brother, James (Lucretia) Berardinelli; a sister-in-law, Deb (Joe) Kawtoski; cousin, Dr. John Berardinelli, who was like a brother to him; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Bear.

Lou graduated from Altoona Catholic High School in 1960 and attended Temple University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Penn State University and a master’s degree in education from IUP.

Lou worked as a machinist and foreman at Conrail and was a teacher and football coach at both Bishop Guilfoyle and the Altoona Area School District.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

Lou enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, hunting, and spending time at the camp in Potter County.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2020, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
