Mary E. Bracciale

August 3, 1963 – Sept. 25, 2019


Mary E. (Stayer) Bracciale, 56, Altoona, passed away peacefully on Wednesday surrounded by her loving family and friends after courageously fighting breast cancer. She was born in Altoona, daughter of William F. and Barbara E. (Trimer) Stayer.

Surviving is her loving partner, Dan Horton, of 26 years. “There was never a time we didn’t know each other.” Becoming childhood friends, later developing into a life unity as one. She is also survived by two daughters: Angela Bracciale, and Antonia (Henry) Cole; three sons: Travis (Bobbie) Horton, Trey (Brit) Horton, and Tyler Horton. Mary was “Mal” to her 10 grandchildren: Trenton “Bug,” Shaylee, Addisen, Brennen, Aria, Noah, Hudson, Tallen, Zaden, and Tenley. Mary loved each day loving her role as their “Mal, as they brought so much joy and happiness to her world. She is also survived by four siblings: Diana Stayer, William (Deborah) Stayer, Karen (Frank) Stayer, and Brian (Teresa) Stayer. Mary was deeply loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and co-workers.


Mary was a 1981 graduate of Altoona Area High School. She worked as a Medical Assistant for Dr. Delerme and Blair Medical Oncology. She then gained a position at Bon-Secours Hospital Patient Access Department and later transitioned to UPMC Altoona for the last 15 years.

She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

Words cannot express the level of impact and captivation Mary had on so many lives. She had a unique relationship with each and every person she encountered. She is loved beyond measure and will be truly missed.

Friends will be received from 2-4pm and 6-8pm Wednesday, October 2, 2019 in the Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
