Mary J. (Pileggi) Sidler

Mary J. (Pileggi) Sidler, 83, Altoona, passed away Tuesday at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Salvatore and Domenica “Mildred” (Malfara) Pileggi. On Sept. 5, 1955, she married William B. Sidler Sr., and he preceded her in death on April 11, 1996.

Surviving are three daughters: Kathy (Dan) (Sidler) Slep, Sue (Jamie) (Sidler) Highberger, both of Altoona, and Lisa (Dr. George) (Sidler) Fleming in North Carolina; a son, Bill (Mary) Sidler Jr. in Florida; a sister, Victoria (Don) (Pileggi) Riley of Lakemont; two brothers: Nick (Patty) Pileggi and Bob (Lynda) Pileggi, both in Florida; eight grandchildren: Christine (Allen) (Slep) Inmon, Jessica (Sidler) Showalter, Paige Sidler, Justin Slep, George Fleming III, Alex Fleming, McKenna Elder and Abby Fleming; a stepgrandson, Carl (Jen) Richter; three great-grandchildren: Mason and Haylee Slep and Addison Inmon; two step-great-grandchildren: Alexis and Emily Richter; many nieces and nephews; and numerous relatives in the U.S. and Canada.

Mary was an Altoona High School graduate and worked in her home taking care of her family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking and baking for family gatherings, gardening and spending time with her family. Mary loved traveling and her favorite destinations were Ireland, Italy and Florida. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Altoona and volunteered there for many years. She was also a member of the Christian Mothers at St. Mary’s.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2019, at Santella Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary can be made to the Altoona Public Library, 1600 5th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602.
