Olinda R. Sicola

Olinda Rose Sicola, 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at UPMC Palliative Care, Altoona, after a brief illness.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of Michael and Mary (Pellegrino) Sicola.

Surviving are two sisters: Margaret Hufford of Altoona and Elsie Esposito of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 11 nieces and nephews: Marlene (Sicola) Dell, Jacquelyn (Hufford) Meyers (Dennis), and Gary Sicola, (Mary Gibbs) all of Altoona, Michael (Frances) Sicola of Vienna, Va., Bonnie (Sicola) Walters (Paul) of Dillsburg, Deborah (Sicola) Wilson of Johnstown, Thomas Esposito (Judy Mercer) of Pittsburgh, Pamela Esposito (Kevin Clark) and Joseph Esposito (Sallie Rembicz), both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Richard (Leslie) Stroud of Ellicott City, Md., and David Stroud (Marc Giroux) of Los Angeles, Calif.; 17 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 18 great-great-nieces and great-great- nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Frank, Alfred and Enrico Sicola; and a sister, Rosemarie Stroud.

Olinda was a 1941 graduate of Altoona High School and was employed at GTE Sylvania, Altoona, for more than 40 years. She enjoyed bowling, reading, cooking, planting tulips and dahlias and spending time with her family and friends. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Altoona.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, at Santella Funeral Home, Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Olinda may be made to the parish that she loved so dearly, care of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Restoration Fund, 806 11th St., Altoona, PA 16602.
