Philip A. Mainello

Philip A. Mainello, 86, Altoona, passed away Friday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Altoona, son of Philip and Donato (Soranio) Mainello.

Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Bernadine (Colabove), whom he married on May 12, 1951; two sons: Anthony and wife, Barbara, of Downington and Joseph and wife, Vicki, of Berryville, Va; four grandchildren: Anthony, Robert, Angela and Joey; four great-grandchildren; two brothers: Alfred Mainello of Hollidaysburg and Joseph Mainello in Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters: Mary Cure, Carmen Mainello and Lucy Lamassaro; and four brothers: James, Patsy, John and Daniel.

Philip was a 1951 graduate of Altoona High School. He retired from Conrail as an inventory clerk in 1993. He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal during the Korean War.

Philip was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, the Unter Uns club, the Buccinese Society and American Legion A&J Iaia Post 827. He enjoyed playing bocci and spending time with his family.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
