Rev. Edward J. Sabo, T.O.R.

 Fr. Edward Sabo, T.O.R., 72, died on August 22, while preparing for Mass at St. Gerard Majella Church in Brooklyn Park, MN. 
 
 He was born on December 19, 1941 in Conway, PA, the son of Joseph and Mary Triska Sabo.  He entered the Franciscan Preparatory Seminary in Hollidaysburg in 1959.  He entered the Novitiate of the Province of the Immaculate Conception on July 2, 1960 at St. Bernardine Monastery, was received into simple vows on July 3, 1961 and professed solemn vows on July 4, 1964. 

  He was ordained to the priesthood on June 8, 1968.  After his ordination he served in numerous ministries including teaching, chaplaincy and parochial ministry, in various dioceses in the United States.  He served the Province as Local Minister, Provincial Director of the Order of Secular Franciscans and as a member of the Provincial Council.  

 In the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown he served as parochial vicar at Our Lady of Mount Carmel from 1986-1990 (from 1989-1990 he also served as chaplain to the former Mercy and Altoona General Hospitals).  From 2002-2006 he served as pastor of St. Clare of Assisi in Johnstown.  From 2006-2010 he was chaplain to Altoona General Hospital while residing at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Friary. 

 He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his Franciscan Community and several cousins with whom he grew up.

 Friends will be received from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be concelebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at the church, the Rev. Patrick Quinn, T.O.R., Minister Provincial, as main celebrant along with members of the Third Order Regular Franciscan Community. Committal will be at the Franciscan Friars Community Cemetery, St. Bernardine Monastery.
