Richard C. “Dick” Anslinger, 79, of Altoona passed away, Wednesday, Jan.17, 2018 at UPMC Altoona

surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Edward E. and Mary Ellen (Miller) Anslinger. He married Carol Roland on May 10, 1958 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church,Altoona.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years,Carol; Three sons: Steven(Valerie), Christopher(Chrisie), and Jeffrey(Randii) all of Altoona; Three daughters: Kim(Dave) Smith, Karen(Chad) Rhoades both of Altoona, and Ellen(John) Weidley of Woodbridge, Va; Seven grandchildren: Broc and Travis(Macenzie) Smith, Joshua Anslinger, Mitchell and Eric(Porsche) Anslinger, Rachel and Johnny Weidley; Two great-grandchildren: Lukas and Trenton Anslinger. He is also survived by his sister: JoAnn(Rod) Nelson of Sterling, Va; Brother-in-Law: Dennis(Jane) Roland; Two sister-in-laws: Betty(Roland) Books and Della Anslinger; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by three brothers: Howard, Robert, and John”Jack” Anslinger


Dick was a 1956 graduate of Altoona High School and went on to earn a degree in manufacturing engineering. He retired in 2002 from Veeder Root after 46 years of service as Materials Control Manager.


He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altoona.


Dick loved Camping, Being outdoors, spending time with his family and his beloved dog Maggie. He also liked playing games on his tablet with his children, playing cards, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Fan. Dick also enjoyed spending time on the patio feeding the birds and squirrels. Oogala-Boogala was one of his silly humorous quotes and he had a wonderful infectious sense of humor. He brought absolute joy to our world. Our motto was when all else fails call Dad. He will be greatly missed.


Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018 at the Santella Funeral Home where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Father Brian Saylor celebrant. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
