Richard L. ‘Dick’ DiFolco

Feb. 16, 1946 - Feb. 5, 2015

Richard L. "Dick" DiFolco, 68, Altoona, passed away Thursday at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C., after complications from a heart transplant.

He was born in Altoona, the eldest son of the late Louis and Antoinette (Gelormino) DiFolco. He married Jennie Reed on Feb. 9, 1987.

Surviving are his loving wife; two daughters: Jessica (Sam Edgar) and Katie (Tom Megahan); his precious granddaughter, Bailey Rae; and two brothers: Dennis (Kathy) DiFolco and Anthony (Joyce) DiFolco. He is also survived by his large and loving extended family.

Dick was a 1964 graduate of Altoona High School and afterward served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired as a foreman from Norfolk Southern with over 30 years of service. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a proud member of Dry Hollow Hunting Camp.

Dick was an active member in his community, especially at the Cesare Battisti Club, where his grandfather Rocco DiFolco was one of the club's founding members. Dick served as president and first trustee for 14 years. One of his greatest achievements was growing the club's membership from 400 to 3,000. He was awarded "Chairperson of the Year" by the Federation of Clubs in 2013, as well as many other awards for community service and membership.

Dick was the quintessential family man who loved his four girls. Those who knew him saw that love, and the love extended to all the members of his family and many dear friends. The family is especially thankful for Frankie and Denise DiFalco of Bowie, Md., for their kindness and generosity through this difficult time.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery, with full military honors.
