Dec. 15, 1924 - Jan. 22, 2016

Rose Ann "Mimi" Himmelein, 91, Altoona, died Friday at home, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by her daughters.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Arcangelo and Lucia (Policastro) Robertazzi. She married Arthur Charles Himmelein in April of 1945, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1985.

Surviving are two daughters: Judith Himmelein and Gale (Carl) Colyer, both of Altoona; two grandchildren: Carl R. Colyer Jr. of Drums and Elaine E. Smolock of Rochester, N.Y.; four great-grandchildren: Gabriel R. Colyer and Isabella Rose Colyer, both of Drums, and Gianna R. Smolock and Veronica E. Smolock, both of Rochester N.Y.; a brother, Michael Robertazzi of Laurel, Md.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by six siblings: Mary Cuzzolina, Josephine Marock, Christine Germano, Esther Lenz, Albert Robertazzi and Joseph "Chuck" Robertazzi Sr.

Mimi graduated from Altoona High School in 1942. She retired from the Altoona Credit Bureau after many years of service. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, as well as a lifelong member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Buccinese Club, both of Altoona.

She took the greatest pleasure in being with her family. The three most important things in her life were her family, her Catholic faith and her Italian heritage. She enjoyed reading, doing the daily crossword puzzle and traveling extensively with her husband and her family, both in the United States and in Europe, especially Italy. She was an exceptional cook and baker.

Mimi was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, and she will be greatly missed by all who loved her as she loved them.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at Santella Funeral Home, Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions for Masses to be celebrated in Rose Ann's honor and memory.
