Susan M. Castagnola, 89, Altoona, passed away peacefully on Sunday at
Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Nunziato and Fortunata
(Garritano) Bosso and her stepfather, the late Joseph Ferraro. On Aug.
23, 1947, she married Joseph J. Castagnola, and he preceded her in death
on Jan. 11, 2010.
Surviving are two sons: Donald and wife, Karen, of Altoona and Joseph
and wife, Jean, of Southport, N.C.; four grandchildren: Amy (Jarriett)
Robinson, Kelly (Russell) Hardee, Andrew (Lauren) Castagnola and
Adrienne (Andrew) McAleer; five great-grandchildren: Nick, Danielle,
Aiden, Wesley and Austin; three sisters: Delores (Sam) Colitto of
Tyrone, Marcella Garver of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., and Elvera Albright of
Linthicum, Md.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Mollica; and a brother, Nick Bosso.
Susan was a 1947 graduate of Altoona High School. She retired as a
dietary supervisor for the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home after 22 years of
service.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Altoona. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday,
Jan. 23, 2018, at Santella Funeral Home, Altoona, where a vigil for the
deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Altoona.
Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
