Tony J. Nardella

Tony J. Nardella, 95, Altoona, passed away Monday at Maybrook Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Yeagertown, son of the late Nunzio and Michelina (Lapiscopia) Nardella. He married Amy M. Heaton, and she preceded him in death on July 9, 1992.

Surviving are two daughters: Gloria J. Clapper and Patricia K. Kuny (Ronald C.), both of Altoona; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a soon to arrive great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two children: Barbara A. Vecere and Terry L. Nardella; two sisters: Mary Ann Albarano and Theresa N. Damon; and three brothers: Michael, Matthew and Raymond Nardella. He was the last surviving member of his family.

Tony was a 1941 graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, where he received six bronze stars. He retired as a welder for Conrail.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona, as well as American Legion A&J Iaia Post, VFW Post, Bavarian Aid Society and Newburg Fire Hall.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 15, 2017, at Santella Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at the funeral home, where military honors will be presented, Father Frank Scornaienchi, T.O.R., officiating. Committal will be at Calvary Mausoleum, Altoona.
