Yolanda M. Garner

Yolanda M. Garner, 93, Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Altoona, passed away peacefully Thursday at her home.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Pasquale and Assunta (Balasco) Maiorino. In July 1946, she married the love of her life, Stanton Garner, who passed away in 1978.

Surviving are two loving daughters to whom she was devoted: Sundra "Sandy" Garner of Manheim and Linda Garner of Tucson, Ariz. She is also survived by the rest of her loving family, as well as the many friends that she made while living for 20 years in Huntington Beach and Pomona, Calif.

Yolanda was a 1941 graduate of Altoona High School and a member of Altoona Choral Society and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. She was well known for her magnificent voice, which led her to be a guest singer for Pittsburgh Choral Society and other engagements.

On June 6, 2016, Mayor Elliot Rothman of the City of Pomona, Calif., will be honoring her for the amazing woman that she was in her life. Yolanda left a lasting impression on each life that she touched, and she always made them feel like family. She was an amazing mother and a devoted wife, and she will be sadly missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Santella Funeral Home, Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2016, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Altoona. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
