Betty Darlene (Rodgers) Ruggiero

Betty Darlene (Rodgers) Ruggiero, 91, Altoona, went to be with her God and Savior on Monday,

after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in New Oxford, daughter of the late Earl and Nellie (Bly) Cooley.

She was preceded in death by her first, husband Robert Rodgers.

Surviving are her loving and devoted husband, Dominic Ruggiero; two sons: Ronald Rodgers of Portage, and Robert Rodgers II of Williamsport; a daughter, Betty Nash of Clearwater, Fla.; two stepsons: Mark Ruggiero and Jeffrey Ruggiero, both of Mechanicsburg; 10 grandchildren: Breanne Rodgers of Hollidaysburg, Jordan and Austin Rodgers, both of Portage, Robert Rodgers III, Patti Sivirockus and Kevin Rodgers, all in California, Toni-Lisa Keiser in Oregon, Holly Rodgers of Williamsport, and David and Shannon Nash, both of Altoona; numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Elsie Bixler of Hanover; numerous nieces and nephews; a son-in-law, Kevin Looney, Fla.; and a former daughter-in-law, Michelle Rodgers of Portage.

Betty was an accomplished musician who could play the accordion, organ, piano, electric guitar, Hawaiian guitar and ukulele. She retired a music director from the former Hollidaysburg State Hospital. She taught countless people how to play numerous instruments. She was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, Altoona.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 26, 2016, at Santella Funeral Home, Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, at Saint Therese of the Child Jesus, Altoona, Father D. Timothy Grimme officiating. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
