Carl R. Bennett

Feb. 19, 1945 – May 26, 2017

Carl R. Bennett, 72, Altoona, passed away on Friday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Ridgway, son of the late George and Catherine (Morgan) Bennett. He married Ann Servello on Aug. 31, 1968.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years; a daughter, Carleen (Joe) Thomas; two sons: Mark (Amy Flick) Bennett and Michael (Maureen Stroup) Bennett; a sister, Joan Stoner of Georgia; two brothers: William (Norma) of Duncansville and Ronald (Joan) of Lancaster; six grandchildren: Ian and Matthew Bennett, Myah and Connor Bennett and Ty and Madison Thomas; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James.

Carl was a 1964 graduate of Altoona High School, where he played on the undefeated 1962 football team and was also on the wrestling team. He and his wife owned The Building II. He served as director of the Altoona Parochial League for 25 years, and he was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

He loved wrestling, NASCAR and following local high school sports.

Friends will be received from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 29, 2017, and from 9 until 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at the Santella Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
