Dean P. Santella

March 30, 1944 – March 23, 2019

Dean P. Santella, 74, of the Ebensburg Center passed away Saturday, where he is being welcomed into his new and eternal heavenly home by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He was born is Altoona, to the late Attorney Angelo and Ruth (Singleton) Santella.

Dean is survived by close cousins: Barry, Mary, and Christine Singleton, Guido and Deborah Santella and family; Aunt Mary Santella; special friend, Raymond Ramey; his caregivers at the Ebensburg Center; and many other cousins.

Dean was one of the first children of many to enjoy the benefits from the programs developed through the then, Blair County Chapter of Retarded Citizens, of which his parents were one of its founders in 1954.

While his father’s sudden death in 1971 occurred while attending a meeting of the Ebensburg State School of Trustees, many dedicated and loving parents, extended family members, and citizens continued to be a voice for persons with developmental disabilities.

Thanks to the many generations of caring individuals we still have to this day, the Arc of Blair County believes that persons with developmental disabilities are valuable members of society and have the same rights as all citizens.

Dean enjoyed the outdoors and listening to music. His warm smile was a reflection of his pleasant disposition.

Our sincere gratitude to all his many caregivers for the excellent care and love shown to him over the years while he resided at the former Altoona Center and at the Ebensburg Center.

Friends will be received from 1:30pm to 3pm Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the Santella Funeral Home. Services will immediately follow the visitation with Pastor John Pine officiating. Interment will be at Alto Reste Park.

In memory of Dean, contributions may be given to the Arc of Blair County, 431 Jackson Ave. Altoona PA, 16602.
