Miriam S. Caporuscio

Miriam S. Caporuscio, 93, a resident of The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg, formerly of Altoona, passed away on Saturday at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Braddock, daughter of John and Victoria (DeNardo) Sherwin. She married James D. Caporuscio April 26, 1947, and he preceded her in death June 16, 1970.

Surviving are a son, James C. Caporuscio (Sandra K.) of Martinsburg; a granddaughter, Emily A. Brookins (Anthony J.); and a step- great-granddaughter, Olivia M., all of Berwyn, Ill.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Ann S. Clements and Elizabeth S. Bracken.

Miriam was a 1939 graduate of Swissvale High School. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a traffic manager for Edgewood Dry Cleaners and as a manager of Grillo's Jewelers, Greensburg, which was a family-related business. After her husband's death, Miriam worked as a teacher's aide at Irving Elementary School. She retired from Altoona Area School District in 1995 with 25 years of service. Additionally, she was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona.

Over the years, Miriam's life experiences enabled her to provide wise counsel and caring encouragement to family, friends, neighbors, students, co-workers, residents and staff. These qualities of the heart and mind will be missed.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at Santella Funeral Home. A funeral liturgy outside of Mass will follow, the Rev. Terrence Smith, T.O.R., and the Rev. Linda Banaszak officiating. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
