Rosemary E. Metzgar

Rosemary E. Metzgar, 69, Hollidaysburg, passed away Thursday at Hillview Heathcare and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of Samuel J. and Rose Marie (Destefano) Rogers. She married James P. Metzgar, who was her loving husband and best friend for 50 years until his recent death on Oct. 29, 2016.

Surviving are twin daughters: Joann Solis (George) and Roseann DeAntonio (Anthony), both of Altoona; two sons: James M. Metzgar of Altoona, and Robert Metzgar of Hollidaysburg; five grandchildren: Anthony and Nickalas DeAntonio, Renata Solis, and Brandon and James Metzgar Jr.; a great-grandson, Dominic DeAntonio; a sister, Linda Rice; and a loving aunt, as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Joann Ruggiero.

Rosemary was a graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School. She worked as a hairdresser for 35 years, retiring from the J.C. Penny Beauty Salon. She also worked at her sister’s salon, Heads Up Styling. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona, where she sang in the choir.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful Italian cook who enjoyed cooking and baking for her entire family. She had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing, and she had even recorded a CD especially for her husband, Jim.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at Santella Funeral Home, Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
