Thomas A. ‘Stelly’ Stellabotte

Aug. 24, 1936 – Nov. 11, 2014

Thomas A. "Stelly" Stellabotte, 78, Altoona, went safely home surrounded by his family on Tuesday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Alfred C. and Dolores M. (Callahan) Stellabotte. He married Doris E. Earnest on May 3, 1958, and they renewed their vows on June 16, 1968, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years; two daughters: Paula of Altoona and Amy (Dave) Miller of Hollidaysburg; two sons: Michael of Altoona and Jeffrey (Melony) of Hollidaysburg; eight grandchildren: Amanda Kopriva, Nicholas Stellabotte, Chad Stellabotte, Jessica Stellabotte, Aubree Miller, Mea Smith, Tyler Miller and Katie Stellabotte; a great-granddaughter, Avery Stellabotte; and his beloved dogs: Gracie and Bella.

Stelly was a 1955 graduate of Altoona High School and served in the U.S. Army as a private first class. He was the owner of Stelly's Hotel and then worked for J.E. Harshbarger Dairy Co./Galliker's Dairy. He currently was employed by Giant Eagle, Altoona. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, where he was an usher.

Stelly enjoyed Altoona Curve baseball and was an usher for nine years. He also enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, going to the beach and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
