Virginia T. DiLeo

Oct. 3, 1924 – May 15, 2015

Virginia T. DiLeo, 90, Altoona, passed away Friday at UPMC Altoona to join her sweetheart, Dan, who was the love of her life.

She was born in South Fork, daughter of the late Anthony and Maria Carmella (LaRosa) Renda. She married her beloved husband of 63 years, Daniel A. DiLeo Sr., on Sept. 29, 1951, at St. James Catholic Church, South Fork. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2015.

Surviving are three daughters: Suzanne M. Ferry (Larry) and Teresa M. Bender (Robert), both of Altoona, and Maria C. Stephens (Jackson) of Arlington, Va.; three sons: Daniel A. (Diana) of Downington and Vincent G. (Judy) and Stephen N. (Lucy), both of Altoona; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rose Marie Pipta of Newry.

She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Isaac Dileo; and a brother, Peter Renda.

Virginia was a graduate of South Fork High School. She worked as a nurse's aide in the nursery of Altoona Hospital.

Virginia was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, knitting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed teaching her grandchildren the art of traditional Italian cooking.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in memory of Virginia be given to our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Restoration Fund.
