Allen R. Schmidhamer, 65, Parkton, N.C., formerly of Altoona, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at his residence, surrounded by family.

He was born in Baxter County, San Antonio, Texas, son of the late James C. and Catherine M. (Amerine) Schmidhamer.

Surviving are his wife, Deloris A. of Parkton, N.C.; three children: Amy D. Smith-Ansin, David I. and Brad A., all of Fayetteville, N.C.; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce A. Certeza of Altoona; and nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda L. Nail; and two brothers: Richard J. and John M.

Allen graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1972 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He started his career as an aircraft mechanic, and later became a carpenter/mason. Allen was deployed during Desert Storm/Desert Shield, and he earned numerous awards and medals for his service. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service as a Technical Sgt. After retirement, he worked for Steve L. Ghering Construction in Florida, where he retired in 2016.

A memorial committal service will be held at

11 a.m. today, April 10, 2018, at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood, where fully military honors will be performed by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard.
