Carmel M. Castrichini, 99, Altoona, passed away peacefully on Monday at her residence.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Canio and Santa (LaRossa) Rizzo. On Oct. 10, 1946, she married Thomas J. Castrichini, and he preceded her in death on July 31, 2007.

Surviving are two sisters: Rose Cortese of Duncansville, and Dorothy Polito of Martinsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers: Anthony, John, David and Fred Rizzo.

Carmel was a 1936 graduate of Altoona High School, and she worked at Puritan Sportswear. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona, and she enjoyed sewing and traveling.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today,

Oct. 24, 2017, at Santella Funeral Home, Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona. Committal will be at Calvary Mausoleum, Altoona.
