Joanne Gordon, 75, Altoona, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, at Altoona

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Eugene and Cecelia (Montrella) Nigro. She married John James Gordon and he preceded her in death in 1999.

Surviving are two sons: Matthew and Peter Gordon; two sisters: Carol Denisi and Barbara Beecher; and the boys of the McGuigan family, who she helped raise.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Delbiondo.

Joanne received a bachelor's degree from Penn State and worked as a second grade school teacher for many years. She was devoted, loving and caring in all that she did with patience, faith and humor as needed - as wife to husband, as mother to sons, as daughter to mother, as sister to sisters, as friend to friends, as Christian to Christ.

She was a member of Midtown Church, Altoona.

Joanne enjoyed gardening, Scrabble, prayer fellowship, NPR podcasts with her son, Matthew, and taking care of others. She sponsored a child abroad and was a second mother to many children.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, at the Santella Funeral Home, where a memorial service will be held at noon, Vince Eilenberger officiating.
