He was born in Altoona, son of John L. Dunn and the late Patricia A. (Santella) Dunn.

Surviving are his wife, Debra M. (Steiner); his father of Altoona; two daughters: Rachael Yost (Matthew) of Hollidaysburg and Jenny Dunn of Altoona; three grandchildren: Camilla, Cullan and Eli; four siblings: Susan Miller (Edward) of Altoona, Patrick (Barbara) of Hollidaysburg, Maureen Houghtaling (Guy) of York and Craig of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two nephews: Matthew Miller and Michael Dunn.

John was a 1971 graduate of Altoona Area High School and retired as a machinist from Norfolk Southern. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, at Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home, 1520 Fourth St., Altoona. A funeral service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Axe and Santella Family Chapel, 1534 Fourth St., Altoona, by Father D. Timothy Grimme.
