John A. Hainley, 86, Altoona, passed away Sunday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Howard and Viola (Nagle) Hainley. He married Wendy L. Bare and she preceded him in death on Dec. 18, 1999.

Surviving is a daughter, Cathy Jo Hainley; two sons: John Hainley Jr. and Robert H. Hainley; his grandchildren great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty (David) Letscher of Williamsport; three brothers: Francis Hainley of Altoona, David Hainley of Altoona and Leroy Hainley of Lee Summit, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Richard M. Hainley.

John was a 1950 Altoona High School graduate and attended college. He went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, where he was activated during the Korean War. He later retired as a computer programmer and operator from Westinghouse.

John was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He enjoyed bowling and hunting.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019, at Santella Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, at the funeral home, the Rev. David B. Letscher, STS, officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park with full military honors.
