Mary Cancilla, 97, a resident of Hillview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, passed away

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Carmelo and Lucia (D'Andrea) Cannamuco. On Dec. 3, 1945, she married Frank P. Cancilla, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 2015.

Surviving are a daughter, Darlene (Frank) Johnson in Virginia; two grandchildren: Travis and Marissa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Nicholas J. Cancilla, who was killed in action during the Vietnam War.

Mary worked in the shoe and garment industry as a supervisor. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona, and she enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, word search puzzles and spending time with her family.

Friends will be received from 9 until 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at Santella Funeral Home, Altoona. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
