He was born in Altoona, son of the late Nicholas M. and Irene (Reger) Spallone. He married Irma D. Vesti, and she died Aug. 14, 1988.

Surviving are three sons: Robert J., Nick and wife, Pam, and Dennis and wife, Judy, all of Altoona; five grandchildren: Bobby, Damian (Renee), Anissa (Dave), Alesha and Vince (Stacey); eight great-grandchildren: Chole, Vinnie, David, Bridget, Adrianna, Spencer, Aubrey and Eli; a sister, Marcella Summers of Altoona; a close friend and caregiver, Leona Parsons; and a family friend, Beth Smith.

He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Edith I. (Sangenaro) Spallone; three brothers: Nicholas, Frank and Richard; and a daughter-in-law, Pamela Jean.

Robert retired from Norfolk Southern as a welder and car repairman. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, woodworking and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mount Carmel Church Restoration Fund.
