Angelo Spinazzola Obituary
Angelo J. Spinazzola, 85, went home to be with the Lord Thursday at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Residence, Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Anthony W. and Mary (Martin) Spinazzola. He was married to his wife, Antoinette of Tyrone, in June 1956 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone, by Monsignor Patrick Harkins.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Debra; three sisters: Nancy Lafferty, Ella Sweitzer and Dorothy Rossi; six nephews; six nieces; 10 great-nieces; and 10 great-nephews.
Angelo was a graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School, where his artistic talents were known by many. He held certificates in jet plane repair training. He was a combat veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, serving as a corporal, M Company, 279th Infantry Regiment, 45th Division, Heavy Weapons, and also served as a sergeant of the Division Motor Pool.
Prior to enlisting, he had been employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad. On his return from Korea, he became paint and hardware department manager of the former Montgomery Ward store on 11th Avenue, Altoona.
Angelo had been a member of the Tyrone VFW and was a current 61-year member of the Howard Gardner American Legion Post 281, Tyrone. He was an active member of the Bellemead Civic Association and a Bellemead Reservoir planning volunteer. He was always willing to help others. He enjoyed all types of music, dancing, traveling, carpentry and gardening. He loved the DelGrosso Heritage Days.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Committal will be at Calvary Mausoleum.
