Anne Koss Caughey, 48, of Hollidaysburg, passed away on Saturday, Sept 2nd, surrounded by family at home after living bravely with cancer.
Anne was born and grew up in Altoona with three siblings, Joel, Sarah, and Laura. After graduating from Altoona Area High School in 1993, Anne went on to study history and political science at the University of Pittsburgh. She graduated with a Master’s degree and taught history at Penn Hills High School in Pittsburgh and the Covenant School in Charlottesville, VA. Anne inspired students through her unique humor, kind and accepting nature, and passion for social justice. Several students remained in touch with her due to the positive impact she had on their lives.
In 1998, Anne was introduced to Rob Caughey by mutual friends in Pittsburgh, PA. Anne and Rob married and have 3 children, Naomi, Lydia, and Charlie. Anne dedicated her life to loving and caring for her children, attending their activities, playing, and teaching them how to be loving and caring to others. Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, and relaxing with dear friends. She was known among those who loved her for her sharp and dry wit, old-soul wisdom, and fierce loyalty to those she loved.
Friends will be received from 3 to 6 PM on Tuesday Sept 5th at Santella Funeral Home in Altoona where a vigil for the deceased will be held. Anne’s funeral will be at 10 AM on Wednesday, Sept 6th at St Michael’s Parish in Hollidaysburg. Anne’s request was for everyone to wear bright colors.
