Betty V. (Perna) Vail

Betty V. Vail, 104, Altoona, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday Oct. 20, 2024 at Graystone Manor, Bellmeade. She was born in Philipsburg, daughter of the late Edwin and Elizabeth (Butterworth) Perna. She later married Howard Vail and he preceded her in death in 2004.

She is survived by her daughter, Rosalie Ann Baldessaro; a son, Jerry Vail; 3 grandchildren: Lisa (Tim) Holsinger and daughter, Grace (Tyler) Magaha; Matthew Vail and his two children, and Tracy Vail and his 3 children; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Eddie McGinnis and his parents.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, parents; son-in-law, Ralph Baldessaro; and siblings: Donna (Frank) Reese, Lynetta (James) Ritter and Lee (Doris) Perna.

Betty was a graduate of Philipsburg High School. She worked many jobs through her 104 years, but she enjoyed being a homemaker for her family.

She enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, gardening, bowling, golf and cards. She was a member of the Welcome Wagon in Altoona and the Gourmet Club.

Betty was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church.

Betty had many special friends at Graystone Manor, including Ann Schrbeiber, Nancy Koehle, and Sheila Clowes, plus the staff and nurses. Being known as the “Mayor of Graystone,” Betty was very happy while living there.

Her family wishes to express their most sincere Thank-you to Graystone Manor for their kind and compassionate care over the past seven years.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or services. Arrangements are by Santella Funeral Home.
