Catherine "Katie" Porta Obituary

Catherine “Katie” M. (Bonerigo) Porta, 93, of Hollidaysburg, PA passed away peacefully, surrounded in love with her children, at her daughter’s home in State College, PA.

She was born in South Fork, PA, daughter of the late Nunzio and Mary (Impala) Bonarigo. She later married Charles C. Porta who preceded her in death, twenty-one years ago.

She is survived by three children: Thomas (Penny) Weyant, Amy (Jeff) Weyant Barnhart, Charlene (Scott) Porta Hinish; Nine grandchildren: Andrew (Stacy), Nichole (Jeremy), Joseph  (Bethany), Jesse, Todd (Alicia), Michael(Devon), Aaron (Hadiza), Alyssa, and Allison; Six great grandchildren: Ava, Sam, Thatcher, Aaliyah-Samone, Harper, and Lucia; two sisters: Marie Snyder and Nancy Seecs; and two brothers: Pete and James Bonerigo.

Katie was preceded in death by daughter, M. Christina Weyant; infant son, Michael Weyant; and brother, Frank Bonerigo.

Katie was a 1945 graduate of Altoona Area High School. Her diverse work experience was a testament to her many gifts, talents, intelligence, and grit. Following graduation, she managed and operated a lettershop.  After moving to D.C. she became a stenographer and was promoted to the executive secretary and administrative assistant to the Comptroller at Andrews Airforce Base.  Upon her return to the local area, she raised  four children and found her career as an interior designer with Ethan Allen from which she retired.

Katie was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Her home was the place where family and friends would gather and celebrate.  She was generous, tender and compassionate, always finding a way to help those in need.  Her words of wisdom and insight remain with all those who knew her.  Katie loved to travel the back roads of Pennsylvania and took great pleasure in viewing the mountains surrounding Altoona. As a decorator, she took great pride in turning peoples home interiors into beautiful living spaces. She was a person of deep love and faith.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
