Cecil Rhodes Obituary

Cecil E. Rhodes, 97, of Altoona, passed away peacefully Tuesday at his home. He was born in Hollidaysburg, son of the late Cecil and Sarah (Bernard) Rhodes. On June 6, 1947 he married Caroline Shultz and she preceded him in death on July 23, 2018.

He is survived by his devoted caregivers: John and Bonita Davis; the Dietrich and Davis families; two nieces: Deborah (Guido) Santella and Diane Shultz; and his extended church family.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Kaye Rhodes and a brother, James Allen.

Cecil was a 1941 Hollidaysburg High School graduate and proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He later retired in 1988 from Penn Electric in the shipping and receiving department.

Cecil was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed carving.

He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Altoona.

Friends will be received from 10am to 11am Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1401-12th Ave. Altoona. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation with the Rev. Dr. Barry R. Folmer officiating. Interment will be in Presbyterian Cemetery, Hollidaysburg. Arrangements are by Santella Funeral Home.

In memory of Cecil, contributions may be made to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1401-12th Ave. Altoona PA 16601 or to the Central PA Humane Society, 1837 E Pleasant Valley Blvd, Altoona, PA 16602.
