Cynthia Gardella Obituary

Cynthia L. Gardella, 65, Sinking Valley, passed away Saturday at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Ferdinand and Mafalda (Pulcino) DelGrosso. She married Peter J. Gardella Jr. on Oct. 24, 1971.

Surviving are her husband of 42 years; a daughter, Jennifer Gardella of Harrisburg; two sons: Peter III, wife, Stephanie (Richards); and step-daughter, Kaylee Richards of State College and Chris and fiancee Alex Studnicky of New York City, N.Y.; two sisters: Mary Ann Crider and husband Carl Sr. and Linda DelGrosso; four brothers: Frederick and wife, Cathy, James and wife Barbara, Bo and wife Sandy and Joseph and wife Linda DelGrosso, all of Tipton; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Cynthia was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellwood. She was a graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School and the University of Pittsburgh.

Cynthia taught secondary Spanish at St. Joseph by the Sea, Staten Island, N.Y., and at Bishop Guilfoyle High School.

Cynthia retired from sales and operations at DelGrosso's Amusement Park and Marianna Foods. She was also an active member on the Board of Directors for DelGrosso Cos.

Cynthia was a member of the Italian Heritage Society. She enjoyed entertaining, cooking and traveling.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 623 E. Third St., Bellwood, by the Rev. David Roesch. Committal will be at Calvary Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School, 2400 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
