Dennis R. Elder, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, at the age of 72. He was born in Altoona on July 28, 1952, to Clair and Ruth (Kline) Elder. A beloved husband, father, brother and friend, Dennis was known for his sense of humor and if he could tell a joke and make someone laugh, it made his day.
Dennis was a lifelong resident of Altoona and was employed by Conrail for 33 years. He was always eager to lend a helping hand or share a funny story. He enjoyed volunteering at his church and socializing with his church buddies. His humor and friendliness left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Debra (Corbo) Elder, who stood by his side through all of life's joys and challenges. He is survived by three wonderful children: Christopher Elder, Jennifer (Kevin) Wasukanis and Joseph Elder, who were the pride and joy of Dennis's life; along with his three grandchildren: Aubrielle, Cameron and Cooper Wasukanis. He cherished every moment spent with his family and creating memories. Dennis is also survived by his sister Janice Bradley, his brother Walter Elder, and brothers-in-law: Thomas Corbo and Patrick Bradley.
Dennis's legacy is one of love, compassion, and dedication to family and friends as well as his beloved pets. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A viewing will be held Tuesday from 4pm-8pm at Santella's Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will he held. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, followed by a burial at Calvary Cemetery.
