Dennis E. Irwin
Dennis E. Irwin, 58, Altoona, passed away unexpectedly Thursday at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Altoona, son of Charlotte (Brumm) Irwin and the late Joseph Irwin.
Surviving are his wife, Sheila (Musselman); his mother; four children: Shane (Christin), Nicholas, Megan and Kelley, all of Altoona; eight grandchildren: Kierra, Ashlynn, Alannah, Morgan, Nicholas II and Sarah Irwin and Kayden and Sayla Weyandt; two sisters: Donna (Hugh) of Altoona and Diane (Wendy) of State College; and a brother, Douglas (Susan) of Altoona.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler.
Dennis was a 1974 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School and a graduate of Penn State University with a degree in health planning and administration. He served in the U.S. Air Force, and he was employed as a supervisor for the Department of Public Welfare of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with over 21 years of service. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, as well as the American Wine Society.
Dennis enjoyed music, golfing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a great storyteller who enjoyed making people laugh.
Friends will be received from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.
