Edward J. Miller

Edward J. Miller, 75, passed away January 20, 2022, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He was born in Altoona, PA, the son of the late Bernadette McMullen and Charles Miller. He married Susan Dunn on August 10, 1974. Eddie is survived by his wife and three children; Erin and husband Tim Scavone, of Wilmington, NC, Ryan and wife Colleen Miller of Altoona, PA, and Patrick and wife Emily Miller of Altoona, PA; and two sweet granddaughters; Makenna Miller and Avalon Scavone. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Matthew.

Eddie is also survived by two brothers; Michael and wife Linda Miller of Charleston, IL and Patrick and wife Sue Miller of Reston, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eddie was a 1964 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School where he was known for his athletic ability. He attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) and continued his basketball career. Better known as “Red” to the basketball team, Eddie treasured the friendships made on and off the court. Eddie was honored to be one of the inductees into the Blair County Sports Hall of Fame, to be held later this spring.

Eddie was the owner of McMullen Furniture Store where he treated his customers like family, gave everyone a chance, and was proud to work alongside his son Ryan. Eddie was well liked in the community and will be missed by many. He could captivate the room with his presence and was quick to share his many stories. His friends will remember his good sense of humor and generosity. He enjoyed spending Monday nights with his longtime friends, attending many sporting events, and sharing time with family.

Family and friends will be received at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 806 11th Street Altoona, on Monday, January 24th, 2:00 – 8:00 PM and Tuesday, January 25th, 9:00 – 10:00 AM. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on Tuesday, January 25th at 10:00 AM. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
