Elizabeth Panagoplos

Elizabeth Panagoplos, 90, Altoona, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday.

She was born in Burgettstown, daughter of Angelo and Fenesia (Rossetti) Pacifico of Angelo Pacifico and Sons Bakery. She married James L. Panagoplos Jr., who died June 8, 2000.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Elizabeth "Peachie" Medley of Altoona; two sons: James Gregory Panagoplos (Patricia) of Roy, Utah, and Father Christopher Panagoplos, T.O.R., Altoona; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Camilla J. Palazzi of Altoona; many nieces and nephews; and members of the Secular Franciscan fraternity.

She was preceded in death by five brothers: Alfred, Leonard, Dante, Ralph and Anthony.

Elizabeth was a 1942 graduate of Altoona High School.

Elizabeth was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of Mary Queen of Angels Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order for 31 years.

Elizabeth enjoyed volunteering at church events and functions.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, in Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be concelebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, by her son, the Rev. Father Christopher Panagoplos, T.O.R., along with members of the Third Order Regular Franciscan community and priests from the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese. Committal will be at Calvary Mausoleum.

In memory of Elizabeth, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
